English Springer Spaniels traditionally have roles as 'show' or hunting dogs but these qualities can be equally applied to the active detection of drugs.
Well-trained Springers have highly developed skills of Scenting, retrieval, the ability to follow hand signals and an innate drive to play as well as hunt. Utilised properly these qualities enable a dog and handler team to detect and accurately locate even small qualities of a substance. Springers are also fairly small canines, friendly and unintimidating; making them ideal for public venues and schools with the advantage of being able to Scent in most confined locations.
